Mahelie

My name is Mahelie, and I am a university student at McGill University. I currently work as a support worker (caregiver) at a permanent group home for neurodivergent children, most of whom are on the autism spectrum. I work with five boys whose ages range from 7 to 15 years old, all with different particularities, personalities, behaviors, and levels of autonomy. My sister also has special needs, which makes me especially experienced in working with children with any type of difference or, more so, unique qualities! I am very comfortable interacting and playing with children, and I always have infinite creative ideas to entertain them. I love encouraging their abundant imagination by partaking in their roleplay, going to the park or on nice walks or bike rides, drawing, doing puzzles—whatever your child enjoys doing, I will be so happy and just as excited to share a special moment with them, making the wait for the return of mom or dad feel like a breeze. When working with children, I believe in the importance of being patient, having an uplifting and positive attitude, being a good listener, and answering their questions while encouraging curiosity and a desire to understand the world and all of its beauties!

Fun fact about me: I am a very DIY (do-it-yourself) person and absolutely love anything involving arts and crafts, and I am an amateur painter! It would be my pleasure to encourage your child’s creative side or help them with various creative projects.
